What is Craniosacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is a highly effective light-touch manual therapy that can decrease pain and tension caused by injuries, traumatic events, stress and to process emotional trauma held in the body. Treatments work to release restrictions in the CranioSacral System, which comprises the head, sacrum, and membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. Because the work is so gentle, it can be effective for all ages, from newborns to the elderly. CST compliments traditional medical models as well as chiropractic, acupuncture, and psychotherapy. People are increasingly turning to CranioSacral Therapy to treat problems associated with pain, dysfunction and emotional trauma including:

Chronic Neck and Back Pain

Migraine Headaches

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Scoliosis

Stress and Tension-Related Problems

Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries

Temperomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD)

Tongue Tie

Pre-Frenectomy Treatment

And many others

SomatoEmotional Release

CranioSacral Therapy addresses the whole person. SomatoEmotional Release (SER) used in conjunction with CranioSacral Therapy can address unresolved emotions, buried memories or traumatic events which may be stored in the body, contributing to both physical and psycho-emotional symptoms. SER can help resolve trauma by supporting clients in noticing and feeling physical sensations, and engaging therapeutic imagery and dialogue. SER is a deeply collaborative process, wherein the therapist pays close attention to physical responses that occur as clients communicate significant sensations, thoughts and feelings. Clients often find that discovering the relationship between their physical sensations and emotions can lead to physical relief and a profound connection to themselves.

What to expect in a CranioSacral session

CranioSacral Therapy is not massage. Sessions are given fully clothed. It is a full body treatment. The therapist uses specific gentle touch throughout the body, keeping their hands in each area until the body makes the necessary corrections. Some clients feel physical responses immediately. Others, unaccustomed to light pressure, may notice less during a session, but report decreased pain and increased relaxation afterward. CranioSacral Therapy can effect profound structural change, as well as mental, emotional, and spiritual change.
